I see your struggle.
I know what it feels like to want food freedom, while simultaneously wanting to diet.
I know what it feels like to live in shame about your body.
I know what it feels like to live with constant internal chatter about food choices.
I also know it doesn't have to be this way.

Individual Counseling
Individual counseling starts with 2-3 sessions of getting to know each other. I'll be asking some detailed questions about your current and historical struggles with eating and body image, as well as your mood, stressors, and any other areas concerning you (because it tends to all relate to one another, right?!) I'll also ask some more general questions to get a better sense of how you're feeling in several areas of life right now. Then, we'll make a plan for moving forward to feel at peace with food, at home in your body, and living life in a way that feels authentic to you.
Over the course of our work together, treatment involves understanding how earlier life experiences, trauma, and subsequent core beliefs shape the development of eating disorders and body disruptions. This exploration takes time, is hard, and is a needed part in healing. We’ll utilize a variety of therapeutic tools to support our work, including: mindfulness-based interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Discussions of how yoga can be woven into your care (both in and out of sessions) can be a part of our work together, but may not be a good fit for everyone. We can talk through that together, with you ultimately deciding its place (if it has one for you) in our sessions and in your life.
Additional Information
Sessions are all held virtually using a secure, HIPAA compliant Telehealth platform. I have found Telehealth to be a really valuable way to make therapy more accessible, both logistically and in terms of creating feelings of safety and ease when in session.
At times, there may be a need for an in-person session. In that situation we would meet at my office space in Park Ridge, IL.
FAQ
I'm not sure if this is right for me...how do I know?
I'd love to schedule a brief (10-15 minute) call with you so I can answer any questions, assess if this is a good fit or if there is another provider I can connect you with, and so you can get a sense of who I am and how sessions may feel. This is usually the first step in making sure you feel good about moving forward.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I take BCBS PPO and Blue Choice, as well as Aetna PPO. If you have another insurance plan, I can also provide you a Superbill if you wish to submit for possible reimbursement.
Is this therapy or Intuitive Eating Counseling?
Both. I am a Therapist (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) who uses my Intuitive Eating Counseling certification and background in treating individuals struggling with their mental health to help people find peace with food and their bodies.
